We wanted to start outside; there was this gorgeous yard with a partially covered walkway with a perfect ivy-covered backdrop. Unfortunately, by the time makeup and hair was done, the sun became a problem so we had to work with tighter shots outside. I can’t complain too much, I still love the selections from there. The shot below is a standout to me. Open shade and a silver reflector were used to get a clean and crisp image.

We worked our way inside for the rest of the time (it’s hot as hell in Phoenix in the summer), and my absolute favorite images from the shoot, from a technical standpoint, are the images in the office. We built the lighting from the ground up. It was a 3-light setup with and octa as key, diffused parabolic as fill, and a speedlight as hair. After that, I exposed for the outside and fine-tuned the lights until I got a beautiful painterly feel. Take a look below to see the image!

The last image I want to share on here is the ground shot. There was such good natural light in that house, and I couldn’t help but want to use it. That said, this image was just naturally lit with a reflector added for a little bit of fill and pop! I adore a good catchlight.

I’m looking forward to sharing more of these, and I plan on adding more in-depth descriptions of lighting setups and editing techniques in the future. If you liked this, be sure to come back to read more, and drop me a line with your thoughts on my Facebook!
